What is Neurosomatic yoga, and who can benefit from it?
Neurosomatic yoga is a synthesis of neuroscientific and somatic based yoga techniques that regulate, strengthen and recalibrate the nervous system, incorporating trauma-informed, trauma-sensitive, and trauma-release processes. A titrational (the practice of processing difficult emotions, stress, or trauma in small increments instead of all at once. The process is borrowed from chemistry. A gradual pace allows the nervous system to perceive safety, preventing emotional overwhelm or re-traumatization) process is prioritized. Therefore, the yoga instruction entails invitational language, with slower and personalized rotational yogic movement and breathing instructions, with a focus on interoception (internal awareness), without strain, to release fascia tension. This system of yoga is designed to decrease the “fight or flight” response of the sympathetic nervous system, while increasing the “rest and digestion” response of the parasympathetic nervous system, enhancing neuroplasticity. Hence, neurosomatic yoga focuses on individualized breathing, movement and meditative exercises, that dissolves fascia tension and strengthen the vagus nerve within the parasympathetic nervous system, regulating the limbic system.
In our present, faced paced modern environment, stress and tension build-up is prevalent, and is often the cause of many physical, mental and energetic ailments. We use HRV (heart rate variability) tests, kinesiology and additional assessments to confirm the beneficial effects of our practices. In addition, we have analyzed the extensive evidence based neuroscience research which has concluded, that trauma and stress related ailments have been relieved with neuro-somatic based therapies. Therefore, the following are only a few examples of the issues that have been relieved as a result of practicing neurosomatic yoga:
PTSD
Menopause/Perimenopause
Anxiety
Stress
Depression
ADHD/ADD
Grief
Exhaustion
Inflammation
and more!
